My name is Jacqueline Bush and I’m an editorial in celebrity hairstyles. My clientele has included Faith Hill, Mark Ruffalo, Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jane Krakowski. I want to be able to show you that hair isn’t as intimidating or as hard as you think it is and I want you be able to have fun with it and do what your vision is with your hair.

Now that we’ve styled this side of the hair, I’m going to go over to Monica’s left side and I’m going to show you another technique. It’s a little more glamorous, a little more polished. We’re going to start right at this front section. I’m going to silk it through because that’s what makes the hair receptive to the curl. Now, as you can see I have a 2 inch section here, 2 inch vertically it’s an inch across, but you can use different sections different sizes. I’m going to curl this in my hand and as you can see some of the hairs are hanging out. That’s okay because the whole point is to have a more natural look. If you want a more finished look, you just have to be a little more careful with those ends. Now that I have that I’m going to take my iron that is nice and hot and I’m going to open and close it around that curl getting it nice and hot. If you have a thicker section you might have to leave the iron on a little bit longer. We’re going around the whole curl sliding it through so that the whole curl is in my flat iron. Just making sure the whole thing is nice and hot.

Now we have our little curl. This is the trick of the trade right here. To break that up I’m just going to rub that curl in your hands, frizz it up a little bit, remember I told you a little bit of a frizz is a good thing. We’re just going to let that sit, because the heat has to cool that’s what’s locking the curl into place. It’s what locks anything into place, heating and then cooling. So, I’m silking it. Again, different directions are a good thing. I wrapped it around my two fingers. Didn’t get too close to the base because I don’t want to burn Monica. It’s never a good thing when you burn your scalp. And I’m just going to start with the iron. This one’s a little bit trickier to do on yourself, you want to make sure your fingers aren’t getting too close to the iron.

And as you notice I am opening and closing the iron and I’m feeling it, it feels pretty hot. So now I’m just going to rough it up a little and I’m just going to let that sit where it is. Understanding your own hair involves not being scared to mess up and really looking at it, feeling it. I felt the hair, it felt too hot. But don’t just go in, curl it and think you’re good. Feel it, if it feels cold, do it again. Okay so I’m finishing up my last curl here. I’m going to take a little break because this method does take a little longer. This is something I use on photo shoots a lot when I want still undone but a little more glamorous. So, you know, it takes a little bit longer. The rest of this hair has cooled. I’m actually going to hand Monica the flat iron and I’m going to take some molding paste. Not much, fingertips full, for her hair. She’s got very fine hair but if you have thick coarse hair you want to take a little bit more but the reason I took so little for this particular one is just because section by section I’m just going to run a little bit through. As you can see it’s silking the curls a little more. Now do the same thing on the other side. Take a fingertips worth, rubbed it just on my finger tips. Sort of run that through. Each curl before I break it up. So, as you can see on this side you get that nice beach wave with the iron.

Now on this side we’re going to do something a little different because as I mentioned it’s a little more polished. I’m going to take a wide toothed comb. I’m just going to have it handy. I’m going to break this up. I think I’m going to comb it a little but as you can see I’m holding the hair so that it’s not completely pulled out from the root. And I’m
